December 16, 1987 was a great day for the Bartlett Lions because on that day, they installed a distinctive member to their club.  Current members just didn't know what to expect from this strange happening and I'm sure there were mixed feelings about the outcome of this event.  Well, I'm here to tell you that the outcome was and still is exceptional.

This determined member immediately plunged into a leadership role. In 1988, this Lion became a Board Member by serving as the club's Tail Twister. A few years later, this member would continue their quest by serving on the Lions Board as a Director for an additional 4 years. Raising spirits and adding new members was a specialty.  Within 10 years the Club had acquired 14 new members and this Lion had achieved a monarch pin.

Even while pursuing other personal endeavors, this member has remained dedicated and focused on the Lion's mission; To Serve.  We've benefited from 16 years of perfect attendance, abundant partaking at club fundraisers and events, Chairperson of numerous committees including the 4th of July parade and Operation Santa Claus. Today our club continues to benefit by this Lions uplifting personality and devotion.  At this time I'm pleased to give this year's Melvin Jones Award to Bartlett Lions Club's first female member, TL Arends.
